The common complaint we can see on the forums about MX Master 3 is that it’s too heavy or it’s too big for regular uses. The first time opened the box and got the MX Master 3 out, I was like, “Gosh. It’s so BIG”. 10 minutes into the mouse and I was like, “Oh God! It’s so heavy.”
Fast forward 2 days and I was like, “Man!! This mouse is Awesome!” Let’s dig deep into the details.
The Harsh Truth
Like any other pc user I had been using ‘regular’ mouse for over a decade already and was pretty accustomed to the way they feel in hand, the way they move and how much they weigh. All of them weighted in a range of 70-80 grams, average sized affordable mouse. So, the MX Master 3 with its 141 grams of weight was a bit too much for me at first. It is also a pretty large mouse. At first it was very awkward for me to use mouse of this size after years of being habituated with several smaller and much lighter mouse. It was heavy. Though my hand didn’t start to pain as it is for some people, but I could feel the weight in movement I made. Maybe partly the reason was that I didn’t jump into photoshop right away with it out of the box. I started with light internet surfing. That might have given my hand the time to adapt to it. But, if you start using it for heavy productivity works right away, it might cause you some pain initially. But as I experienced, the pain would go away in no time.
The Pros (That Matter)
Other than weight and size which surprised me the most was its outer texture and shape. After using plasticky mouse for all my life, suddenly the rubberized texture opened up a whole new world for me. I never knew that a mouse could feel so great just by the touch of it. It’s unlike any mouse I have ever used and probably will use. Then comes the feature that this mouse is famous for, its phenomenal ergonomic shape. It fits so well in your hand that you wouldn’t even remember that you are holding a heavy mouse. Your hand wraps around the mouse so nicely that it’s just the shape the hand needs. The mouse also has a great thumb rest which is uncommon in most of the mouse. Holding such an ergonomic mouse compared to its similarly weighted non-ergonomic counterparts makes all the difference in productivity, satisfaction and even day to day lives.
What I Feel
After using the mouse for more than 2 years, I still fall in love with it again and again. Yeah it’s true that it weighs quite a lot compared to other regular mouse that we have been accustomed to, and is pretty heavier compared to the lightweight gaming mouse. But I can confidently say that you are not gonna feel any difference after 2 days of usage. Our body has quite a way of getting used to the things we use. Though It’s gonna feel awkward for 2 days from the third day it gets accustomed to you pretty nicely.
If you have really smaller hands then this mouse might not be right for you. In that case you can use Logitech MX Anywhere mouse. I have an article that explains the differences between these two mouse pretty elaborately. Otherwise, you will be pretty comfortable with this mouse. Though it might feel little bit heavy at first but as you get used to it, it’s never going to feel too big or too heavy for your hands. The more you use this mouse, the more you will come to enjoy its specialties.
